Finally a happy week after a 49ers win! Yes, it may be too little too late at this point, but I would rather win than lose, and I’m not giving up until the fat lady sings. Let’s take a look at this past week:
Weekly Updates
There is optimism that Dre Greenlaw will make 2024 season debut on Thursday as long as he doesn’t have any setbacks this week in practice.
Guard Ben Bartch, who has played really well in the last couple games, has a high ankle sprain and will go on the IR. A huge bummer.
The 49ers have reportedly reduced Javon Hargraves’ 2025 base salary from $19.9 million to $2.1 million. We will see what happens, but this potentially sets the 49ers up for a possible cut after the June 1st deadline.
Tidbits from the Week
Deebo Samuel posted on his social media this week: “Not struggling at all just not getting the ball!!!!!!!!! 🤷♂️”
Considering Deebo’s production this season and what he’s done when he’s had the ball, that’s a crazy thing to post…and also not needed at this time in the season.
After the win on Sunday, we learned about some motivational speeches on Saturday night that helped rally the team. In a little bit of a surprise, Kyle Shanahan asked Brock Purdy and Deommodore Lenoir to speak to the team. With so many well-respected veterans on the team, it’s interesting/near that Purdy and Lenoir were the voices leading the team.
Isaac Guerendo was nominated for Pepsi Rookie of the Week

Game Recap
Hallelujah, the 49ers are back in the win column! Not just that, but we actually played well and had a fairly complete effort.
A lot of people are trying to diminish the win by saying it was against a very bad Bears team. Sure, the Bears are not a playoff team - we can acknowledge that. However, the Bears have a very good defense (that the 49ers torched for 38 points), and the 49ers have played plenty of mediocre teams this season that they haven’t taken care of…so to see them dominate a team (and not squander a 2nd half lead) was a pleasant surprise.
The defense looked great! The return of Talanoa Hufanga can’t be understated as he’s a huge part of the secondary, and it also means way less snaps for Ji’Ayir Brown, who has been putrid this season. The other defensive star of the game was Yetur Gross-Matos who notched a hat trick with 3 big sacks!
The injury bug continues to bite as RB Isaac Guerendo went down midway through the game. His status for Thursday’s game is questionable as of now. Guerendo filled in admirably as the starting RB before going down; let’s hope he can go on Thursday!
Speaking of backfield production, concern continues to mount about Deebo Samuel’s production (or lack thereof). Samuel continues to get touches out of the backfield and as a receiver, but he’s not being nearly the playmaker we expect him to be. Instead, Jauan Jennings and George Kittle continue to be the biggest receiving threats and playmakers. With Aiyuk, CMC, Mason, and others down, the 49ers are going to need another playmaker to step up - whether that’s Deebo, Pearsall, or someone else.
Along with another playmaker stepping up, the niners will need a lot of other things to go their way if they are to have a shot at making the playoffs. In all likelihood, the 49ers will need to win out, and the remaining schedule isn’t an easy one.
One step at a time though - the 49ers need to take care of the Rams this week on the Thursday Night Football!

FOUR-ty Niners Facts
1) According to the NY Times playoffs odds, the 49ers have a 59% chance of making the playoffs if they win out
2) At one point in the 1st half, the 49ers had 310 total yards compared to the Bears’ 2 total yards
3) The 49ers had more 20+ yard plays on Sunday than they’ve had over the last 3 games combined
4) George Kittle had a whopping 138 receiving yards in the 1st half alone!
Highlight of the Week
One of the best recent 49ers-Rams highlights from recent history was Christian McCaffrey securing a rushing TD, receiving TD, AND passing TD all in one game. We all knew we got a special player when McCaffrey came to the Niners, but this game really cemented in our brains what a special talent we had just acquired.
The last time the 49ers played at Levi's South vs the Rams, Christian McCaffrey became the 4th player in the Super Bowl era to throw a TD, catch a TD and run for a TD in the same game.
What will he do this time around?

Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers have historically had some good success against Sean McVay and the Rams - a win Thursday would build significant momentum for the Niners to make a push to win out the remainder of the games.
Remember, it aint over until the fat lady sings.
Bang Bang Niner Gang!
